Savage:  n.  A person who embraces brutal behaviors and kills, injures, and destroys without conscience.  

Shaman:  n. A Medicine Person of compassionate heart and pure intent, dedicated to selfless service for all beings.

The “From Savage to Shaman” book-project is a spiritually-inspired and spiritually-guided effort about the life experiences of Johnny MedicineBear.  On my own, I would have never brought this book forward.  But there is purpose and meaning to this project beyond the personality of Johnny.  From divine guidance and inspiration, I’ve opened my heart, bared my soul, and am committed to this book-project and of being of service to all.  I’ve grown a lot from this creative experience, and if just one other person benefits from this book, then the whole project will be double worth it.  I hope that you, dear reader, will see yourself in these pages and use “From Savage to Shaman” as a tool to move from darkness, through your shadow, and into divine light with soul-purpose, freedom, and joy.  

My early life was immersed in the logical contracted 3-D physical world, and I distanced myself from creative, emotional, feeling-level people and experiences.  I lived in the far-left passing lane of life at the speed of insanity till age 40, including a combat tour in Vietnam flying the F-4 Phantom Jet-Fighter returning stateside without a scratch;  no physical scratch that is.  

To support my life-style, I drank alcoholically, lived shallowly, and relied on sensory pleasures for entertainment, enjoyment, escape from reality, and to hold my inner demons at bay.  It worked, of so I thought, until it stopped working.  Words cannot describe the emptiness, sadness, despair, pain, and suffering experienced when I put the plug in the jug, and stopped running,,,,, from myself.  But if you’ve “been there – done that,” you can relate; and if you’ve “not been there – not done that,” you can imagine.  Awakening to a greater reality beyond the physical, I stayed the course and emerged at a place of relative peace, freedom, and joy.  And you can to, as anything is possible.
